“‘Say Yes’ is one of the best programs in the state of the New York. I know several kids who are taking advantage of it from my neighborhood. They’re going to SU actually, getting $30,000 from their hard work in city high school.”

(Carl Eber of Syracuse, 55, recreation therapist, Democrat, District 4, favoring Joe Nicoletti for mayor)

“I think there’s a lot of waste in the school system that could be corrected if they investigated the avenue a little bit more. There’s really a lot of teacher’s assistants more than, I think, more than what they need. I understand we have — what was it? — 28 more teachers in Liverpool this year, and they said we’re were going to be an austerity budget and we’re not.”

(Lynda Lanni of Liverpool, 68, retired, Democrat)

“Well, I would say, since I’m working at St. Lucy’s on the Westside of Syracuse, I would just say, to be there for the people, there’s lots going on, drugs, guns. So I think if they would just come down and spend some time in the West side.”

(Pat Bergan of Syracuse, 72, nun, Democrat, voting for Stephanie Miner for mayor)

“There’s a lot of people in the county, and a lot of businesses that have closed down and moved and a lot of jobs lost. I think that affects the whole community.”

(Chris Himes of Pompey, 52, Syracuse University professor of sociology, Democrat)

“But I’ve called the police many times, and they say there’s nothing they can do it about, so. You know, noise ordinance laws they just don’t apply to SU.  (Interviewer: So as far as your concerned they should be doing something about it?) I think they should. You know, we pay our good share of property and taxes to live in that neighborhood. So to have be disrupted for collegiate athletics is something we just have to put up with — we don’t get a good say in that.”

(Michael De Salvo of Syracuse, 48, computer consultant, Democrat, voting for Joe Nicoletti for mayor)
