CONCORD, N.H. (Jan.7) — This morning the Barley House became home to a new culinary creation—The Huckaburger.  Richard Zussman lays out the recipe.

The Barley House in Concord, New Hampshire, calls itself the home of America’s best hamburgers.  Governor Mike Huckabee put them to the test by taking a bite of a burger named in his honor — The Huckaburger.

[“It’s better than any hamburger I’ve ever had in my whole life.  When Arkansas comes up with a Huckaburger, I’m sure I’ll like it.  But right now this is the only one in the world.” Huckabee]

Barley House owner Brian Shea says he wants the Huckaburger to be as distinctive as its namesake. The burger includes tastes form Arkansas and has a healthy touch.

[“We’re going to throw some spinach on it, and a tomato on it.  But the cool thing is I think we’re going to throw a fried pickle on it.  We figure the spinach will be a nice thing to throw on as a healthy thing.” Shea]

As it turns out, Shea knows his Arkansas specialties. Atkins is the capital of fried pickles and Alma is the spinach capital of the world.  He is so confident about his burgers that he welcomes a challenge from Arkansas for the title of best hamburger.

[I’d say I’m ready for the throw-down.  Come on up and let’s do it. Shea]

For FM 89 News, I’m Richard Zussman in Concord, New Hampshire.
