“Obama…. His education policies have convinced me. He seems to actually support teachers — wherein a lot of the time it’s not about supporting teachers. It’s about, ‘Let’s create some tests and hopefully that’ll test students and get not support to teachers,’ which is somewhat what McCain’s plan is. McCain used to have my support but he’s not as much of a “maverick” I guess as he used to be. He’s much more sticking to what’s going to get him the Republican base vote, which I understand. But it has lost my vote as a result.”
(Brian Coonley, Democrat, 21, education major, Syracuse University)

“Obama…. His policy on healthcare is that he wants to make it universal, which I think is  really important because there’s tons of people without healthcare and, like, coming from — my dad doesn’t have healthcare and it’s, like, super expensive and everything and he wants to make a policy that’s going to, like, make sure that every single person’s covered.”
(Shannon Feeney, Democrat, 21, public relations major, Syracuse University)

John McCain…. He has a multitude of experience, dedication to our country. My three main issues would be taxes, school system and healthcare. Healthcare — he is trying to make strides to do specific things rather than generalize and give free healthcare, which I feel is important.”
(Julie Fish, Republican, 37, stay-at-home mom, Fayetteville-Manlius)

“I’m votin’ Obama…. Energy, like environmentalism. Um, one thing that worries me a little bit is Israel. My family is Israeli. The whole Obama-Israel thing isn’t like as tight as the Republicans do. So I’m a little worried about that.”
(Adam Gold, Democrat but has voted mostly Green in the past, 24, owner of Funk n Waffles in  Syracuse)

“I’m probably gonna have to vote for Obama. The economy, teachers’ wages and uh, the war. I just think Obama can — is gonna help the economy, hopefully get everybody out of Iraq.”
(Brian Snyder, Democrat, 36, project manager, Brewerton)
