Republican Bob DeMore has won the 12th District seat in the Onondaga County Legislature.

“I feel really good. I worked really hard. I went to over 3,000 homes and I enjoyed the experience. I look forward to being in the county leg. I really do.” [Demore]

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting Tuesday night, the unofficial vote count, according to News10Now, showed DeMore with 3,746 votes (53 percent), Democrat Victoria Lightcap with 3,073 votes (44 percent), and Conservative Lee Stemmer with 224 votes (3 percent).

DeMore has been the Fabius Town Supervisor since 1994. He previously was the Fabius Town Justice from 1978-1985. The 12th District seat was held by Republican Dale Sweetland for 14 years.

At the Republican’s election-night party at the Liverpool Holiday Inn, the celebration started before 10 p.m. Party-goers munched mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, fruit, vegetables, assorted cheese and crackers. They also enjoyed the open bar. Many were glued to television sets to watch the results reported.

At the polls earlier Tuesday, some voters explained why they saw DeMore as the best candidate.

Richard Carino at Wynwood Commons of Manlius:

“I just like what I read about him. It was a just based on my research. I felt that the person I voted for hard more relative experience.” [Carino]

Pauline Janik at Southwood Fire Department:

“I’m not crazy about the way Democrats have handled things nationwide, so I want to keep Republicans in power.” [Janik]

Norman Hatt at Layette Commons Building:

“He’s more experienced, and he had a pretty good campaign brochure indicating his experience and things he wants to do better than the one running on the Democratic ticket.” [Hatt]
