On May 4, 2013, Steve Thompson won the Syracuse Democratic Committee’s designation for the Common Council District 2 seat. It is left vacant because incumbent Pat Hogan has reached his term limit.
Biography
Occupation: Former Syracuse police chief. Was a police officer for the city of Syracuse for 35 years. He turned in his badge in 2005 after he was accused of driving under the influence. In March 2013, Thompson told Democracywise after he retired, he sought help and hasn’t had a drink for eight years.
Education: Syracuse University, BS in policy studies; MA in public administration from Syracuse University
Family: married to Bridget Thompson, an assistant district attorney for Onondaga County. Three adult children, three grandchildren
Community Involvement: Coached little league and Babe Ruth baseball for 12 years
