On May 4, 2013, Dan Cowen failed to get the Syracuse Democratic Committee’s designation for a councilor at-large seat. The Post-Standard reported that he withdrew his name from the party’s nominating process and would try to challenge the designees, Jeff Wright and Pamela Hunter, in a primary.
