For the 2013 election, Alfonso Davis challenged Stephanie Miner for the Democratic Party’s nominee for mayor in a primary election on Sept. 10.  It’s the second time he’s faced Miner . In 2009, Davis ran in a Democratic primary for mayor against Miner and Democrats Joe Nicoletti and Carmen Harlow. Davis received about 1,021 votes, while Miner received 4,040.

Biography

Occupation: For 12 years, Davis worked on the sub-assembly line at New Process Gear. He took a buyout from the company in 2008.

Education: B.S. in elementary education from State University College at Oswego, Associate Degree in Human Services from Onondaga Community College

Family: Wife, Felicia Davis; four children: Zarfara, Tizera, Jecoura and LaQuan

Felicia Davis is the former head of the Syracuse Review Board. In 2011, Miner fired Felicia Davis, saying she failed to do her job. According to The Post-Standard’s report, a follow-up audit by the state comptroller’s office said Felicia Davis was conducting private legal work while earning a city salary. Felicia Davis filed a lawsuit against the city and Miner, saying that Miner discriminated against her because she was pregnant and on maternity leave. As of April, 2013, the lawsuit was pending in federal court.
