*On April 2, Gary Morris announced his candidacy for common council president. Morris lost his bid for Onondaga County clerk in the fall of 2012 to Republican Sandra Schepp.

Biography

Occupation — Principal owner of G&R Real Estate 2007, LLC. Also teaches business courses at Onondaga Community College and Cazenovia College.

Morris formerly served as budget analyst for the Onondaga County Executive Management and Budget office, as well as director of senior services for Huntington Family Centers, and director of community services for the Dunbar Association.

Education — graduate of Onondaga Community College with an associate’s degree in applied science with honors in business administration; bachelor of science in business administration from Le Moyne College; master of business administration in human resources management from the University of Phoenix.

Family — wife Regina; three children: Austin (20), Aleesha (24) and Gary Jr. (26)

Community involvement — Member of 100 Black Man of Syracuse, Inc. (2009-present); board member with Syracuse City School District Educational Foundation, (2009-present); member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop, Cunningham Council; member of Onondaga County Democrat Committee (1994); City Chair of the First Ward; board member with North Syracuse School District Multicultural Committee (2006-08); board member with Syracuse Minority Media Coalition (2009-10); board member with Syracuse Model Neighborhood (2006-07); board member for Neighborhood Action Council (1998-2000); public relations director for Payton Temple Community Men’s Center (1997-99); co-established Reading Around the World at Cicero Elementary School (1996-98).
