Education— Bachelor’s degree, Amherst College, law degree; Harvard Law School

Family— Daughter, Catherine.

Community Involvement— Anti-crime advocate and founder of the Attorney General’s Anti-Crime advocates program. Member of the board of the Lawyer’s Committee on Violence.

Past Offices

Counsel to the West Side Crime Prevention Program. Lead counsel to the Straphangers Campaign (2001-2003). Senate Deputy Democratic Leader (2003-2006). Commissioner of the New York State Commission on Sentencing Reform (2007). Chair of the Senate Codes Committee (Elected in January 2009).
