County District 7: $ for Liedka

Share

For campaign cash, Republican Danny Liedka has outraised his opponent in the District 7 race for the Onondaga County Legislature.

As of Oct. 29, Liedka has raised $15,374 — more than three times that of his opponent, according to campaign reports filed by the New York State Board of Elections. But going into the final days of the campaign, he has less cash on hand.

Liedka, the mayor of East Syracuse, is running against Lorene Dadey, a former East Syracuse mayor and the Democratic Party’s candidate for the District 7 legislature seat. The two are seeking the seat vacated by Thomas Buckel, D-Syracuse, who opted not to run for reelection and is campaigning for the state Supreme Court’s Fifth Judicial District.

District 7 has been recently redesigned. It is in the central region of Onondaga County, including a small northeastern part of the city of Syracuse, most of the northern and western parts of DeWitt and all of East Syracuse.

The election is Nov. 8.

Here’s an overview of Liedka’s fundraising, from campaign finance reports filed with the state board of elections:

  • Since March, when Liedka announced his campaign, he has raised $15,374. By comparison,  Dadey announced her campaign in July and has raised $4,521.
  • As of Oct. 29, Liedka had $1,360 on hand; Dadey had $2,998.
The majority of Liedka’s donors — 77 percent — gave in amounts of $100 or less. Their total contributions are $4,995. Those small donations account for 32 percent of all his fundraising dollars.
  • 19 percent of his contributions — or $3,030 — came from Republican candidates running in other districts. Those include $1,000 from County Executive Joanie Mahoney, who is unopposed for re-election to her second term; $600 from Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, who is seeking his sixth term;  and $500 from County Legislator Patrick Kilmartin, R-Syracuse, who is seeking his third term.
  • 13 percent — or $2,000 — came from political action committees, or PACs. His largest PAC donations include $1,000 each from MAC PAC, created by Common Councilor Ryan McMahon, R-Syracuse, and a candidate for the county legislature District 15 seat; and Fresh Start PAC, which supports Republican candidates.

In his campaign, as of Oct. 29,  Liedka had spent $11,413. Of that, 16 percent — or $2,500 — went to been on Cookfair Media, a political consulting firm. Liedka spent another $1,000 on Barry Zeplowitz & Associates, a political polling research institute.
