“Health insurance for every American. That’s got to be on the table and it’s got to be given to every American including the little baby that’s born today because without health insurance, not going any place and everyone is going to get hit with a health issue.”
(Peter Meluni, 63,  of Camillus, retired, Democrat)

“So, I think probably really the biggest issue is getting actual information, accurate information to the people from the media. And there are a lot of disputes. You know, you got Fox News. You got MSNBC. Everyone is sort of slanted in how they want to deliver the news to you. And my biggest concern as a person is that I feel like I can’t quite get a handle on what’s really happening because I have to weave through so much of the spin – you  know, the sides that people are leaning to. In terms of government itself , I see the Republican side really trying to pull women’s rights away from them and I have a real problem with that.”
(JoAnne Rougeux, 43, of Syracuse, PC support specialist, Democrat)

“If you look back at like Canada on their healthcare it’s very hard to get into a doctor’s office and I don’t want to be stuck with that. I like being able to have a choice. If we have it like Canada does, we’re never going to be able to get in.”
(Samantha-Ann Lawrence, 21, of Syracuse, part-time at Lindt candy store, Democrat)

“If we grow government at the expense of printing more money, which is going further into debt then we are not creating jobs, private sector jobs. I think we are just too big. We just really have to shrink government we can’t keep expanding programs and helping everybody. When is there self-reliance?”
(Ed Koolakian, 64, of Liverpool, owner of Koolakian’s Men’s Clothing, Republican)

“I think Romney shot himself right in the foot picking up Paul Ryan. What is his main claim to fame? Cutting Social Security and Medicare? Are you kidding? Are you kidding? You just took away half your potential votes. Are you familiar with the voucher system, how’s that going to work? It ain’t going to work. If you get a voucher system and you get a bill – guess what? You got to pay it. There is no one behind you going to pay it for you.”
(Nick Altieri, 54, of Liverpool, director of permits for Syracuse city government, Democrat)

(Jamie Hoskins is a graduate student in broadcast and digital journalism.)
