“Nobody likes war. And I know there’s a lot of stuff going on over there but really the United States really has to keep their going-ons in their own business. It probably would bring our gas prices down if things muddled down over there.”
(Eric Sereno, 35, of Syracuse, sound technician for live performances, unaffiliated with a political party)

“Most of the jobs is in China. And we don’t have the factory work like we used to. I think the main jobs around here is medical and the university. And, food services, it pays a little more than minimum wage. But you can’t really live off that if your rent is $425 a month and you’re only making 2-something every two weeks. That’s hard.”
(Lisa Hairston, 48, of Eastwood, dining hall staff for Syracuse University Food Services, Democrat)

“I have two jobs and I have no insurance. I’d like to see something done for middle class people that earn too much that can’t get state insurance. I called a private company and it’s about $1, 100 a month. I’d have to get another full-time job.”
(Tammy Fisher, 42, of Utica, x-ray technician at Crouse Hospital, unaffiliated with a political party)

“Social Security, immigration. I think that people ought to be able to come over here and better themselves, go to college and work. Social Security – I hope that Social Security is still up in the workings for our children, too. Not just us, but our children.”
(Marcia Willis, 59, of Syracuse, is on disability, described herself as liberal)

“Healthcare should be one of the top things. Healthcare and more stability for senior citizens —elder care. For one, I did home care and I worked in different facilities in home care and I just seen a lot people neglect. And I think that should be a concern.”
(Darlene Dewberry, 34, of Geddes, full-time student at Onondaga Community College studying social work, Democrat)

(Debbie Truong is a junior majoring in newspaper and online journalism.)
