In the money race, Republican challenger Rick Guy trails badly in the 120th state Assembly District race.
As of Oct. 19, Guy, a lawyer who lives in Syracuse, had raised $40,675 for his campaign, according to the campaign finance database of the New York State Board of Elections. That is about one-third the amount reported by Democrat Bill Magnarelli, the incumbent assemblyman for the 120th District. Magnarelli raised $128,210 since April 3, according to the State Board of Elections.
The election is on Nov. 2.
The 120th Assembly District includes Northside, Westside, Eastwood, Strathmore, Valley areas of the city, Geddes and Van Buren.
Some highlights from Guy’s fundraising, according to reports filed with state board of elections:
- Of his total $40,675, about 75 percent — or $29,888— came from named individual contributors.
- His largest donation from a named individual contributor was $3,800 from Carl F. Guy, from Endwell, N.Y.
- The Republican Party contributed $2,600 to Guy’s campaign. That’s about 6 percent of his fundraising.
- As of October 18, he had spent $20,166 and had $20,509 on hand.
“Money is simply one efficient and effective means to fulfill the purpose and goals of the campaign,” says Guy’s website. “No campaign absolutely needs money; the goals of the campaign could be accomplished in other ways.”
