$ for 121st Assembly District: Al Stirpe

For his campaign bankroll, Assemblyman Al Stirpe, D-North Syracuse, gets the most from his party.

Stirpe, D-North Syracuse, has received $81,700 from the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee, according to reports filed with the New York State Board of Elections.  That’s more than half of his total fundraising.

Stirpe is seeking his third term from the 121st state Assembly District. His challenger is Republican Don Miller, a businessman from Clay who is making his first run for elected office.

The 121st Assembly District consists of the towns of Cicero, Clay, LaFayette, Manlius and Pompey. The election is Nov. 2.

The district leans toward the Republican Party, with 35 percent of voters registered as Republicans, 31 percent as Democrats, and 25 percent as unaffiliated with any party.

That tilt to the Republicans, said Stirpe, is the reason his own Democratic party has given him so much money. “We’re just trying to get our message out,” said Stirpe.

The money for Al Stirpe’s campaign breaks down like this, from reports filed with the state board of elections:

  • As of Oct. 22, Stirpe had raised $142,998.
  • Of his total, 57 percent — or $81,700— came from the Democratic party.
  • 21 percent — or $ 30,529 — came from unions.
  • Among his largest union donations are $3,800 from and Service Employees International Union’s political action committee  and $3,800 from the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees.
  • 14 percent — or $19,947 — comes from named individual donors. His largest is $1,500 from Joe and Jani Charles of Fayetteville.
  • Stirpe has spent $137,146 and has $ 5,852 cash on hand.
