“I feel relieved.  I feel like all of the work that not only myself but so many others put in paid off,” Stirpe said.

As of 11:40 p.m. with all 116 precincts reporting, Stirpe had 32,013 votes – or 55 percent – compared to 26,035 votes – or 45 percent – for incumbent Don Miller, R-Clay, according to unofficial results from the Onondaga County Board of Elections.

The 127th State Assembly District stretches from the towns of Clay, Cicero, Manlius, Pompey, Fabius and Tully.

From 2006 to 2010, Stirpe held the seat for the then-121st Assembly District.  In 2010, he lost the seat to Miller by 900 votes.  After statewide redistricting, the district was renamed to the 127th District.  Republicans have the advantage in voter enrollment.  Of the 90,624 voters, 34 percent are registered Republican, 31 percent are registered Democrat, and 25 percent are unaffiliated with a political party.

At the Democratic gathering at Pensabene’s Casa Grande in Syracuse, Stirpe said he’s ready to focus on the things he’s been missing while on the campaign trail. “Next is to rest, to clean out the campaign headquarters,” said Stirpe, “and take my daughter to visit colleges, which I haven’t been able to do for the last several months and hopefully get her settled in.”
