Two groups of young Democrats from Syracuse University will party separately on Election Night.
First, the venerable College Democrats:
President Abby DiPlacido says some of the group will be at Democrat Dan Maffei’s headquarters in downtown Syracuse. Maffei is running against Republican Dale Sweetland and Green Populist candidate Howie Hawkins for the 25th Congressional District Seat. DiPlacido says that the congressional race has the main focus of her group’s efforts this fall.
Some College Democrats are planning to host their own parties, while others will attend CitrusTV’s Election Night Party.
Students for Obama is the other main Democratic organization on campus. Mike Short is the state director for the group. He’s predicting a busy night, with his group joining the Onondaga County Democratic Committee at its main party in Liverpool.
“Everyone is really excited. We think it’s going to be a great night for Democrats.”
(Mike Short, state director for Students for Obama)
Students for Obama and the College Democrats are separate groups on campus, a fact College Democrats stress. There has been some tension between the two groups over territory issues, a problem Mike Short of Students for Obama called “unproductive.”
Both groups will be in separate places come election night, November 4th.
