If you’re looking for a Democrat on Tuesday night, you’ll probably find him or her in Liverpool.
You can find the Onondaga County Democrats and most of the county’s Democratic candidates in there. The Onondaga County Democratic Committee will be holding their election-night event at the Holiday Inn on Electronics Parkway in Liverpool. Election day is November 4th.
Fran Knorr, a volunteer form the Democratic Committee, said that when planning the event, the party has to be ready for either a victory or a defeat.“We prepare for both outcomes, but of course we always hope for a victory celebration.”
The Party’s party begins at 8:30 p.m., a half hour before the polls close at 9 p.m.
“Earlier in the night, poll inspectors will be dropping off results periodically. Once the winners are determined the candidates will each get up and say something to thank their supporters.” Knorr said.
For the candidates, the Democratic Committee results party is often the last of many stops during Election Day. For example, Democratic Assemblyman Al Stirpe, up for re-election in the 121st Assembly District, rattled off a long list of appearances that fill every hour of the day.
“In the morning, we will be out with signs doing visibility on the busiest intersections in the District. I vote at 10 o’clock. Lunch at Our Lady of Pompei in the afternoon.” Stirpe said.
Candidates often have parties to watch the results come in with gatherings at their own at their campaign headquarters. At the Liverpool party for all the local Democrats, candidates will speak one by one in front of the press. All hope to be making victory speeches.
For the presidential results, the Democrats here expect to have a live simulcast of Democratic candidate Senator Barack Obama’s result party in Chicago, Illinois.
