Biography
Bey has been District 4 Common Councilor since 2011. He is a former regional coordinator for the New York State Senate, a song writer and author.
Occupation: former regional coordinator for the New York State Senate, May 2009 to March 2011.
Education: Graduate of Thomas J. Corcoran High School; attended Virginia State University studying social work; in 2011 pursuing a degree in psychology at Empire State College.
Community Involvement: Board member of Faith & Hope Community Center and of Home HeadQuarters, Inc.; former president of the Syracuse Inner City Rotary Club; former president of the Southside Community Coalition; former Pop Warner Coach for the Kirk Park Colts
Bey was born in Syracuse. He has written two books, “The African American Dilemma” and “The Key to Character.”
Past Political Experience
In 2011, Bey and Howie Hawkins of the Green Party competed to fill the seat of then-incumbent Democrat Tom Seals, who had reached his term limit of eight years and could not seek re-election. Bey won the 2011 election by 97 votes. Bey ran unsuccessfully ran against Seals for the District 4 seat in 2005 and for a Common Council at-Large seat in 2009.
