Biography
Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, sought the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Gingrich won the South Carolina primary on Jan. 21 with 40 percent of the vote, compared to former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney’s 28 percent.
Occupation: Since leaving the House, Gingrich has been involved in several public policy groups, non-profits and conservative think tanks.
Education: Emory University, B.A. in history (1965); Tulane University, M.A. (1968) and Ph.D in modern European history (1971)
Family: Wife, Callista; daughters Kathy and Jackie
