“I would like to see a lot of activities for like a certain age group — I  would say 16-18 and even older people.  There’s not a lot of things for them to do, so there’s not really a lot of opportunities, jobs things like that.”
(Geremy Barnwell, 25, of Syracuse, personal trainer, Democrat, undecided)

“Education – I would say education, jobs in the community, and I would say my third one would be overall just the well-being of the city of Syracuse. But it starts in the communities for me — to focus on the situation with education in schools here, and the needs of children in school, and branch out to the community and to do some renovations in the different communities of the city.”
(Anita Green, 48, of Syracuse, gas station cashier, Democrat, voting for Republican Otis Jennings for mayor)

“Education is pretty big. My mom is a teacher and I know that they are cutting back on a lot of things because of the budget and everything, I really want to make sure they keep money going into schools because it is important. They’re our future.”
(Amy McHugh, 26, of Camillus, Kaplan test proctor, teacher, personal assistant, independent, undecided)

“Taxes obviously – funding of road way projects because there are a lot of really bad side streets in Syracuse that need to be taken care of.”
(Ryan Lynch, 25, of Syracuse, pilot, Democrat, undecided)

“To encourage business development and to replace some of the businesses that have gone, like the grocery store in the valley — specifically and schools – to help our kids to come out of the schools ready.”
(Caroline West, 60, of Syracuse, school secretary, Democrat, voting for Stephanie Miner for mayor)

(Shardé Edwards is a graduate student in broadcast journalism.)
